Groves Memorial Community Hospital to Relist Old Hospital Property

Fergus, ON…Groves Memorial Community Hospital (GMCH) announces that the sale of the old hospital site will not proceed as initially planned. After careful consideration, GMCH has decided to relist the property for sale at a later date.
"Throughout the sales process, bids are submitted, reviewed, and carefully compared, with the best option being chosen," explains Angela Stanley, President and CEO of GMCH. "All terms and conditions must be met before announcing a successful bidder. While we have not yet found the right fit, we remain confident that the ideal buyer will emerge by relisting the property. We will keep the community up to date as we progress."
On August 9, 2020, the doors closed at the old hospital located at 235 Union Street in Fergus, ON. Since then, a committee consisting of the hospital Board of Directors, community members, and hospital staff has partnered with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and Ontario Health West (OHW) to determine the future of the old hospital site.
Interesting update, especially with the hospital committee continuing to work through the future of the old site. On a lighter note, when I have some free time, I like playing Dash Masters for a quick change of pace, and it’s pretty fun and relaxing.
It's striking that the site has sat unused since 2020, and the committee has been working with the Ministry of Health and Ontario Health West for years without a completed sale. I wonder whether the delay reflects difficulty finding a buyer whose proposal meets all terms, or whether the intended future use itself is still unsettled. Relisting may help, but the community would likely benefit from clearer public updates on what uses are actually being considered.
