Fergus, ON…The old Groves Memorial Community Hospital (GMCH) demolition is complete, and the Ministry of Health has approved sale of the property.
“The old hospital site is an asset of the health system, and as such, any decision about the property is governed by the Ministry of Health (MoH),” explains Angela Stanley, president and CEO of GMCH.
“We recently received MoH approval to finalize the sale of the property after working with a real estate agent on an open bid submission process,” adds Stanley. “During this process, bids were received, evaluated, and compared, with the most appropriate option being selected. Terms and conditions will need to be met before announcing the successful bidder. After the property sale is finalized, the buyer will need to engage with the municipality to approve zoning and planning.”
On August 9, 2020, the doors closed at the old hospital located at 235 Union Street in Fergus, ON. Since then, a committee consisting of the hospital Board of Directors, community members, and hospital staff has partnered with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and Ontario Health West (OHW) to determine the future of the old hospital site. “We are grateful to the community for their support as we have moved through each step of this process. Our focus and attention are on continuing to expand Dr. Groves’ legacy of providing high-quality healthcare for the residents of Centre Wellington at our new Aboyne site.”
